The inspiration behind The Jace is Petrina J. Johnson’s, founder and publisher of the publication, daughter Jacelyn Marie Miles.
To her Jacelyn is the inspiration for the magazine because she gave her hope to continue. Petrina gave birth to her daughter in February of 2007 in Houston, Texas. God had given her the vision for the magazine a few years before, but her daughter was the motivation she needed.
“I name the magazine after my daughter because she is part of the vision,” said Ms. Johnson. “Jacelyn, besides salvation, is the best gift God has given me.”
Her daughter was only a year old when the magazine debuted in 2008. It was a special time for Ms. Johnson. Each issue is special and now that Jacelyn is seven-years old, it is time to take the magazine to the next level.
“I am The Jace,” says Jacelyn. She tells everyone when she is helping her mother promote the magazine, “That is my magazine.”
God has inspired Ms. Johnson to encourage other people to have a stronger relationship with Jesus Christ. She never thought He would also use her struggle as a single mother to motivate her to accomplish such a big vision. Every time Ms. Johnson looks at her daughter she sees faith.
“It is the faith I have in God and I see it in my daughter’s eyes, I see it as she grows up right before me. She is the most beautiful little girl a mother can have and I know God has used her to help me accomplish my purpose in life.”
Thanking God for her inspiration, Ms. Johnson knew the only appropriate thing to do is name the vision after the inspiration. Jacelyn has inspired her to worked harder to make the magazine a success and Ms. Johnson hopes the legacy of the publication will continue in years to come.
