As a strong believer in God’s word, I absolutely believe His word is true. Apparently many artists who “proclaim” their love for Jesus Christ either do not understand God’s word or simply not a believer of God’s word. Many of them are delusional because they feel singing Gospel or basically uplifting music contributes to their salvation.
First and foremost there is nothing, and I mean nothing you can do to earn salvation. Jesus died on the cross for everyone and for all sins, because He knows all your past and future sins. Praise God!
Anyhow let’s get to the reason for this article. God is not please with the Gospel music industry. It is becoming more and more secular or in lament terms worldly. If God is the inspiration of your song, it will glorify him not promote something which he hates. What does God hate?
He hates sin, loves all and each and every one of us; but he detests sin. So if your songs promote fornication, adultery, homosexuality, greed, drugs and other things which promotes the kingdom of Satan, God is not blessing you to have success. The enemy will give you a false sense of success disguising it as a blessing so that the artists will continue to promote his kingdom.
Artists will sell several albums and have billions of fans who adore them. So the question is why do so many Gospel artists feel comfortable collaborating with other artists who promote the things of the world, while professing their love of Jesus Christ. The bible tells us in John 14:15 (KJV)) If ye love me, keep my commandments. This proposes the question do they really love God or just the blessings of God. And by the way if you are not sure what I mean by the terminology “things of the world,” allow me to explain.
It means the fleshly desires, things that are not of God. Christians are in this world but should not be of the world. We should not participate in things that are not pleasing to our Father in heaven. This means also not partnering with someone who is not focused on keeping God’s commandments, it is not part of their agenda. Many Gospel artists heart is wherever the money is at. They are not interested in bringing souls to Christ or ministering to others. God is the platform they used to gain money and fame.
I know this might sound as if I am judging but God’s word does the judging, not me. I do believe the artists should get paid for the events they participate in. After all this is what they do for a living. But at the same time do not use God to become famous and then partner with those in the industry that are promoting things of devil.
Let’s see what the word of God says about it. In 2 Cor. 6:14 (KJV) it tells us believers to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers for what fellowship hath with righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? Am I saying Christians are not supposed to enjoy life, no! it means, for example a person who is singing about the goodness of Jesus should not collaborate on an album with someone who makes their living singing about things that DO NOT glorify God.
So why do gospel artists eagerly hook up with secular artists being that God’s word is clear about association with unbelievers. Recently Gospel artist Tasha Cobbs-Leonard featured rapper/singer Nikki Minaj, who is known for her high use of profanity and sexual expletives in songs, on her new album. Cobbs seems to be comfortable interacting with Minaj, who loves to rap about sexual promiscuity . Well why is that?
The reason is Cobbs either never had the love of Christ in her heart despite how many times she sings her famous inspirational hit “Break Every Chain,” which has become the anthem of praise in millions of African-American churches. You can sing and scream out Jesus name to your blue in the face but God examines your heart.
Remember if you love Him you will keep his commandments. You wont be perfect, you will fall and sometimes get caught up in sin. Yet because the love of Christ that dwells in your heart and spirit will cause you desire to stop sinning. It is called deliverance and when you love Christ you strive to please Him.
Another reason that Cobbs feels no shame in collaborating with secular rappers might be because of the trick many Gospel artists fall for, they become demonized. It is a harsh reality. Many start off with a pure heart and such humility in the beginning. They want to glorify the name of Jesus, they have a sincere heart of praise. Then fame sets in and the desire to make more money comes, usually because they are influenced by executives in the music industry.
The singers start to listen to their managers and publicists, you know their marketing team. Next thing you know the enemy comes in and turns their hearts away from God. It is all a trick of the enemy and the artists loses themselves .
The scripture tells us in Matthew 13:4-8(KJV) And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
Jesus use parables to explained to disciples about the Kingdom of God. The seed was sown and yet fowls came and devoured them. With others the seed was soon but it did not get in deep into the person’s spirit, so it was easily choked by thorns. If Cobbs can comfortably interact with a person who operates in the Kingdom of Satan, you may ask yourself why are the demons so comfortable around Cobbs. Remember darkness and light cannot dwell together. As I stated before either she never love Christ truly before of the seed was devoured due to worldly influence by others.
Therefore there is no difference in Cobbs and Minaj They are the same, both are of the world. One just has outer appearance and a form of godliness and the other is more open about her sinful lifestyle. Which actually Minaj has a better chance to come on to Jesus because she is not professing Christ on her songs, she sings exactly what is in her heart, her sinful lifestyle. God can come to her easier because she would be more open to hear.
But Cobbs professes God’s love and probably feels “she knows God, she grew up in the church.” (that is a saying most people say when they were raised in the church, but still have no relationship with Jesus.)
God’s word is clear about association with unbelievers. It does not mean we will not ever interact with others who are not believers, it just means we do not desire the same things. Remember God is looking at the heart, not your works God will soon allow the Gospel industry to shut down. The process is starting by the true hearts of the singers being revealed. I hope Christians can come together and pray for the artists who really do love God and have a sincere heart to praise his name. May their music glorify Christ and Jesus will bless them. AMEN!
