Get Together Northwest, Inc.
Helping several communities in the Northwest Houston area for more than 10 years, Shield Bearer is bringing restoration to those who have experienced trauma as victims of crimes or other life challenges.
Through counseling SB is working with others on reconciling with their families, improving mental health and restoring the hearts of those who have been through some form of trauma. Roy Wooten, founder and CEO of SB, adds how the organization is impacting people’s lives in the areas they serve.
“Last year we served more than 15,000 people through counseling in our Northwest counseling offices and through our prevention programs in area schools, churches and community organizations” he said. “Without Shield Bearer I believe there would be more crime, more area people on social welfare and more people unemployed.”
Counselors are trained licensed therapists but most importantly are Christians. Because of their faith, Wooten believes they are able to bring Jesus’ healing touch to others who are not able to access it elsewhere.
“We meet people where they are and serve people of all faiths, Christians, other faiths or those who have no faith at all,” he said.
Shield Bearer is a ministry as well as a non-profit organization. Regardless of the client’s ability to pay, counselors are there to help individuals and families in trauma recovery. This includes helping veterans, human traffic survivors and crime victims.
How can one help? Donations and volunteers are always appreciated. According to Wooten, donations large or small go a long way.
“We rely on the generosity of businesses, individuals, families and churches to meet our mission. We do not take government grants or use tax dollars to provide our free and low cost services. Donations allow us to continue to say yes to so many who are being told no by other area counseling providers.”
Shield Bearer is a member of Get Together Northwest Inc, a non-profit organization that helps other non-profit ministries serve the community.
